54. Green 1927 Las Palmas Canyon, 200 ft. West side of Laguna Salada 15 miles South of North end Lower Calif., Tropic Oct. 27, 1927 We broke camp early this AM. We had camped the night before on the edge of the dry bed of Laguna Salada. There had just been a heavy rain making the roads muddy and slippery. We got stuck up to our running boards so made camp there. However we pulled out last night after unloading and we were able to go on the morning. We managed to go the next 10 miles without getting stuck again as the roads had dried considerably. We saw a dozen Palms in a caynon from the road at the side of the Laguna Salada. We had gathered information that this was the only water unless we went 30 miles further south to Guadalupe Canyon. The country here is desert acacia association, the plant life consist of Palmerde, Chonwood and an occasional mesquite further out east nearer the Laguna.
