June 27 Bright and sunny at breakfast. I walked Sura to
LOC and back in CES, spending some time off trail
at ~550 CES where we've seen Lachesis and Lampropeltis in
the past. At 1615 h as I walked out to the boardwalk
at CES 425, a Porthidium nasutum (242+24 mm,
12.3 g) crawled at my feet; turned and snapped
when seized w/ forceps. Walked length of 150R before
lunch. At ~1600 h Wendy and I checked the Ozolochris
calcaifer clutch at CCL 750, then a new one Brian
found off trail at CCL 250- took lots of photos. At
1930h Charles found an adult Micrurus micrurus
( ) crawling slowly in leaf litter,
just off the SOC near its origin; writhed and
bit repeatedly when grasped w/ forceps, but did
not fail display. We walked to CES 600
and saw only 1 Eleutherodactylus ; others calling.
At ~2045 h we caught a reddish-brown
Septodeira septentrionalis ( )
crawling against the wall of the River Station bath house.
June 28 From 0930-1100 h I walked SURA to LOC and back
by CES. Sunny, lots of Ameiva. OTS students
brought in an adult ? Ozolochris calcaifer that
"jumped into an insect net" as they stood around the
cage site at CCL 250- and there is a new egg mass
there now too.
June 29 From 0800-1130 h walked SOR-SHO-SUA-CCC and to
the waterfall w/ Wendy. We checked out several sites
