June 1 at 1655h Kelly installed a Hobo data
(continued) logger at "Box 24", ~3m into forest and
SW of the stairs at 1195 m. After dark
I got a huge (23g) caterpillar out of a
tree, ~5 m up - Dave Hardy spotted it.
June 2 Last night at dinner, teasing Mark
Moffett about being a Harvard PhD, he
says "So I guess Silence of the Lambs
is a procedural manual at Berkeley?"
While we pickle snakes, a German tourist
comes by to chat, comes here to collect
snakes and is very excited about having
an "Elaphe leonardi - never before photographed!
Dave Hardy asks him about permits
and he says "Please ask me an easier
question." At night we descend the bed
of "Stream #3" w/ Ted, who at 1955h,
895 m, grabs an immature Sinoratrix
trianguligera as it swims in a small
pool. At 2110h, 870m, I grab a small
Amolops ~20 cm above ground on a
small plant ~3m from the stream
bed. Later, walking the Upper Loop Road
we catch a Geleho sinensis 30cm
above ground on a stone wall, 2215h,
955m. Ted catches an Elaphe
porphyracea crossing the road at 2225h
