Heene, H. 1990 October 30 along the road, at least 3 black and white colobus (COltiNued) monkeys jumping from tree to tree, acrobatics remin- iscent of New World spider monkeys. At 1613 I caught a ? Bufo kizoloensis hopping beside the road in leaves and moss, into which she sought refuge. At 1628h we spotted an adult 0 adolus on an east facing rock face beside road ~2.1m up, which went in an adjacent (~3cm) hole in the rock. At 1730h w/in ~10 minutes we were surrounded by flying termites, and wondering why no birds were after them. At 1800 h there was a sudden hard, dark shower. Reading leaves of Grass, which she loaned me, I wondered where and who Wendy Roberts was when she read various parts of this - I must ask her. After dark Bob gave a spirited slide show on African herps which elicited many questions and comments from the Ugandans. Dinner w/Jan and Tom, then we returned to find our house swarming w/ driver ants! October 31 Cold, hard rain when we gradually stumbled out between 0630-0730h. Ants everywhere - there is much stomping, cursing, sweeping, spreading of ashes etc. as we have coffee and bread. The rain turns into a real storm that lasts most of the day - our house is very cold (~10-12°C) and we huddle, drink tea, our breath steaming and chat - frustrated at being pinned inside. Sun finally breaks out ~1630h and we take still more photos of the Virunga volcanoes to the SE, swatted
