Greene, H. 1985 19 April (continued) but saw no animals. Saw a Buteo jamaicensis on the road in lava. Went to Barstow for supplies and got back to the trails ~1715 h. Intermittent winds all day, but nice. Road hunted ~1900-2115, six trips back and forth over the standard 2.1 mile stretch. Found a DOR adult Crotalus mitchelli several hours old; a small fresh DOR C. cerastes; and a fresh DOR Arizona with a rodent in its stomach; and 2 ? Coleonyx. Very strong winds in the evening (short trails hard!). 20 April High overcast and cool at dawn. Brian McCarty, Ben Diol, and Chris Austin joined us last night, and we sat around talking after breakfast til 10. Walking out, we found a small ? Phrynosoma platyrhinos (~35ch) active in the road and a small adult ? Callisaurus stationary under a creoste bush. Went to Kelso Dunes, walked for one hour, and saw no lizards. Cold and windy, overcast, all day and some rain as we drove back to Piesah ~1530h. Road hunted ~30 miles on Natl Trails Hwy from ~1915-2030 and saw no snakes, a few Dipodomys, and one large Canis latrans. Earlier in the day at the trails we saw a Falco sparverius and a possible Prairie Falcon. By 2200 hr sky clear, very cold and windy, and we are hoping for better (= hotter) weather tomorrow!
