1-2 March partly cloudy. Concentrated both days on the (continued) open area on top a hill, the "old archery range." Got (on successive days) 1/3/166 Batrachoseps, 9/3 Ensatina, several Taricha,
2/0 Sceloporus, 1/2 Euneces, 1/3 Gopherus multicarinatus, and 0/2 Crotia - all under cover.
9 March S. Slopes of Box Springs Mtns., San Riverside Co., California. Arrived here approx 1/30 hr w/ Ben Dial (Chapman College) and Robert Fisher (student at UC Davis); a steep slope of large granite boulders among fairly open coastal shrub. Overcast w/ occasional sun. Saw 1-2 Uta, a few Sceloporus occidentalis, and many S. orcutti active on the ground and boulders. Found an scat of Lynx rufus.
