Dicere, H. 1989 July 16 (continued) To the black-and-orange Urotheca . At 2045 h Deborah Clarke showed Ridell for a Sibon melulatta (♀ 490+166 mm , 23g ) crawling across the sidewalk. When handled the snake retracted into an exaggerated S-coil w/ quadrants spread, jerky false strikes, and cloacal discharge. At 2115 h Ridell found an Dnantodes cerchioa (♂40+280 mm♂, 18.5g ) in leaf litter during heavy rain, at CES 550 m - only a cloacal discharge when handled. At ≈ 2200 h Richard Foster and Carol Farnelli took Ridell and I to an adult ♀ Bothrops asper (1563+200 mm , 1.75 kg ) on a slope beside concrete steps at the SE side of the Cartancara Swamps. The snake was in a loose coil, w/ head and neck raised ≈ 20-30 cm and an angle of ≈ 60°, immobile. Ridell and I had no trouble getting her in a garbage can using two hooks. Never stuck - always tried to crawl away. July 17 Alejandro Solizano arrived at noon, and we walked in the afternoon out SOR-SHO-SUA and back by way of CCC. No snakes. After dinner Alejandro and Ridell and I walked out to CES 700, and caught an Dnantodes cerchioa (♂ 681+315 mm , 14.5g ) at CES 65 m, 2045 h, crawling in leaf litter - no defensive behaviors. July 18 The temporal continues - days of cool weather and lots of rain throughout the day and night. This morning we anesthetized the big ♀ Bothrops asper
