Greene, H.
1989
April 3 La Selva Biological Station, Prov. Heredia, Costa Rica
Arrived here ~1400 hr, ~3 hr late because a logging
truck had turned over just past El Salto falls,
such that we returned to Heredia and came through
Parque Nacional Braulio Carillo. I arrived in country
on the 29th of March having left Oakland at ~1000hr.
Had a bumpy flight in the US, but a nice one
from Miami - the pilot was Jose Pablo Gonzales,
uncle of Carmen Rojas. Had dinner w/ Carmen
Thursday and Friday night. Went to the
Instituto Odonomzo Picado on the 31st, to have
lunch with Alejandro Solorzano and Jose Maria
Gutierrez. Saw a chocolate-colored Bothrops
schlegeli, attended the meeting of the Board of
Directors of the Organization for Tropical Studies on
the 1st and 2nd. D.E. Gill (U. Maryland) told
me that on ~7 March 1989 he and E.D. Brodie
III found a small Pseustes poecilotes heron
on the ground at ~CES 650m, trying to eat
a restless Dusky Antbird (Cercomacra
lyrannina , "feathers in pin", 9.2g). Adult
birds were screaming at the snake, and later
they found it had abandoned the bird affair
took place under an Asterogyre. I had come
down w/ a sinus infection the 1st, such that by
the time I arrived here I was miserable. La
Selva is extremely dry - the Ecological Reserve
