Diore, H. 1988 October 14 the blacktail, coil in shade under a boulder and (continued) lying on rock, in thick *Pleacion - Opuntia* - Osthills shrub. The site is a steep slope below rimrock. Snake never moved and we didn't disturb it. Barney gave me a pair of *Thamnophis cyrtopsis* he found on the road, one following the other (1850-185). From 1430-1530 hr I walked upstream from the Hell-Marty Dam parking lot, but saw only *Sceloporus janvri* and *S. virgatus juveniles*; I had found *Urosaurus* and *S. clarki* around the Hardys' house earlier. Met Howard Snell on the road (He was coming w/ Pat Kennedy and Jerry? [with UNM graduate students] to a meeting at the SWRS). Took them up to check the blacktail at 1600hr. It was still coiled but a few cm from it's moving site, seemingly in a better place to sun. It seemingly woke when Pat leaned close, and crawled slowly and continuously into a crevice under the rock - never settled. By this time there were dark clouds everywhere and a slight drizzle as we descended the hill. Rained over an inch during the night (42 mm). Dave Hardy had arrived by the time I returned from supper at the store. October 15 This morning we surgically implanted a Tebics MOD-050 transmitter, freq. 148.4295, in a *Crotalus molossus* from the same slope as #1. Barney Tomberlin found this ? out crawling at 1700hr October 3. She weighs 460 g, transmitter 27.5 g.
