1 September Road hunted x1900-2100 hrs on the western bajada of the Tucson Mountains and edge of the Alva Valley. Got 4 Crotalus atrox (2 juveniles), a small Leptropeltis getulus, and a Bifo alvarius.
2 September Road hunted for x1 hr w/ David Hard in an area SE of Tucson (near the E. part of Saguaro Natl. Monument) and got only a juvenile Rhinocleilus lecontei (“clarus” phase - no red on snake).
3 September Care Creek Canyon, Chiricahua Mtns., Cochise Co., Arizona Arrived here x1500 hr - partly cloudy and almost cool. I traveled that stretch from x1830-2045 hrs, four trips, and saw:
4 Crotalus scutulatus (1 ad. escaped), 1 C. atrox (1 juvenile, not collected), 1 juv and 1 ad Pituophis melanoleucus (1941 & 1949 hrs, not collected), and 1 ad Rhinocleilus lecontei. The two adult ♂ C. scutulatus were impressively dark brown and gold snakes, immediately reminiscent
