Heene, H.

31 July past the Pensión Floz-Mar, hoping to see a quetzal.
(continued) On either side are cleared pastures w/ numerous
the widely spaced in places large forest trees.
Overcast. Tried to locate a singing bellbird
without success. Finally in quick succession
Carmen spotted a ♂ Crocias tricaudulata
calling from the crown of a large tree –
and we had a fine view out to him
because of the road's slope - and I located
a ♀ Phaemonachus moquinro in another tree.
a fine walk, after which we visit the
Fogdens. Left Monteverde after lunch at the
Pensión Quetzal, and had a great ride
through pouring rain down the hills. It
took us six hours to get back to San José
because twice the main roads were blocked –
once by a huge fresh landslide and once
by a fatal car accident.
1 August spent the day in San José.
2 August all the way back to Berkeley - 14 hours,
thanks to a miserable layover in Miami.
