Green, H. 1987 (continued) 12 July and harder to see. I did not disturb it and saw no movement. Walked out the CES to check Lachesis muta at 530m - asleep under the Danaea - and caught a green/listerose Norops capito near the ground on a green bunch supply next to the 200m marker. Partly cloudy, no rain, river way up. 13 July Left at 0800hr w/ Dave Hardy, Jon Tate, David Carr (U. Maryland) and Joe Bernardo (Duke U.). Checked the big Lachesis muta at 700 CCC, and found it concealed under the opposite side of the fallen log (trail side). The Bothrops asper at 225 Ashbridge was dead, limp, and only slightly smelly - few bugs. It weighed 760g, 1530+235mm ? Dissected it late and found general emaciation - no fat, organs and somatic musculature seemingly reduced. There were several large, pale, slender worms on the surface of the lung (saved - acanthocephalans?). Dave found that one mandible had a fracture healing poorly, ie, slippage of the parts possible. We surmise that maybe she starved because of the injury, perhaps exacerbated by the parasites? Earlier, at 0856hr, I grabbed a ~1.6m Pseustes poecilonotus at CCL 450 as it crossed the trail. It tried to crawl, then bit fiercely. Only got the full defensive display by holding it by the tail
