Greene, H. 1987 20 June (continued) thus w/in a few meters of the origins of SOR & CES, when I have caught Pseustes in previous years. Snake has one healthy fickle and a large puncture-wound like scar on its neck, no food, 1390mm SV, 555mm tail, 87, 887g. When seized immediately turning round (it had tried to crawl away) w/ jaws agape, body inflated, bit my jeans and hung on. Repeated handling resulted in emission of a "music" somewhat reminiscent of Elaphe obsoleta (which Pseustes reminds me of in various ways). After dinner ~10 of us went to a dance in Chilanote, a few km west of Puerto Viejo. It was held in a school, as a benefit. We sat on benches and tiny chairs around "strange little tables" that turned out to be desks! The only free space was in a corner near the ocrinal, so we were treated to a stream of honkies. The walls of the school are corrugated metal, and little kids were using a ladder to ascend the wall and peer into the dance hall. We paid 200 colones per male and 100 colones per female to attend, entering through a checkstand of a little table. In one corner was a stand for beer and other drinks run by ~5-6 men, including Rinaldo Aquilar. The place was packed. Speakers everywhere, such that the benches pounded with music.
