25 April
Pisgah Lava Flow, San Bernardino Cr., California
arrived here ~0130 hr w/ Zoology 165 (Herpetology) class
from Berkeley; 27 students, 2 TA's, and 2 guests.
Spent the morning looking around the "Pisgah Hill"
and saw Sauromalus, Gremidophous, Uta,
Garbelia, Crotaphytus (1F w/rel, ran bipedally),
also Callisaurus, and Dipsosaurus. Yesterday
just after dusk Claudia Jake found 2 Bufo on the road.
After lunch drove eastward.
Dora Camp, N side of Granite Mtns, San Bernardino Cr.
arrived here ~1430 hr and spent the afternoon
exploring in the rocks. Claudia got a DOR
Crotalus cerastes on Kelbaker Rd on the way in;
after dinner, took one car and drove to Kelso ad
back, got only 1 chionactis.
26 April
at ~0730 hr Kathy Devaney found a juvenile Saladora
helolepis crawling among cholla and shrubs a
few yards from the ranch house (umbilical scar
obvious, SV , tail ). Spent the
morning exploring boulder slopes and the
tajada sweeping NE from the ranch. I saw
Gremidophous, Uta, and 2 Neotoma. Doug
Brown found a beautiful, apparently gravid
Lichanura out on Hegard among boulders at
~0830-0900 (SV ~725, tail 80+?, 380 g). at ~1115hr
I found an adult Crotalus mitchelli crawling
under a large boulder - rattled when I hooked
