Azores, Id. 1985 18 May Palm Springs, San Bernardino Co., California arrived here last night to attend Desert Reptile Symposium, in honor of Stelbris, at Palm Springs Desert Museum. Near sundown we walked around dunes on Washington avenue, a mile or so N. of I 10. "We" includes Ben Dial, Jon Losos, John Cawthors, Jeff Kaufmann, and Chris Austin. Claudia saw sand spraying out of a burrow, and we looked into to see a small Crotalus cerastes which eluded our efforts and escaped down it. 19 May Piogah Lava Flow, San Bernardino Co., California Claudia John and I arrived here in early afternoon and unloaded some supplies at our trailer, ~ 1 mi W. of the crale. Driving out, at 1513hr, we caught a ~ 1m Mastigophis flagellum draped over lava, beside a Neotoma nest [specimen later accidentally released]. Went to the "Piogah Hilton", an old mine shed ~ 5 mi. S. Natt Trails Hwy on a dirt powdery road and ~ 2 mi W of the crate. At 1945hr got a 468+29mm Crotalus mitchelli, 70g, which was heard rattling by a student as he walked by. Palped (empty) and released it, after clipping second verteb. We were here to link up w/ ~ 25 former Zoology 107 students, and when they arrived I learned that
