19 March
(continued)
Mastigodryas melanolomus, 18 March, 11.5g, SV338, tail 102 has juvenile color pattern
M. melanolomus, 18 March, 47g, SV590, tail 221
spots still clear but hard to see because colors
are same as ground color.
Rhadiraea decorata ♀, 16 March, 8.5g, 217mm, tail 132
Enycholampus minimus ♂, March, 80g, SV611mm, tail 108+(?)
Zaplophis depressirostris, 19 March, 150g, SV1025mm, tail 600mm
L. nebulosus - just brought in by Manuel Santana
from near the AC Lab. Has swelling in stomach,
but I can't get it out. 18g, SV430mm, tail 280mm
Eumilica boudini, 18 March, 34g, SV75mm
NB: When handled for measuring, the subadult
Mastigodryas bit readily; the big L. depressirostris
squealed and inflated and struck repeatedly.
After dinner went on a grasshopper census w/ Beth
Braker. Just as we started, P. DeKies found a small
Bothrops schlegeli ~2m up on a small tree
beside the East River Road, ~100m (?) from the
station. It was loosely coiled, resting tentatively
leaves of a vine growing on the tree. Didn't
rush off when lifted free, but thrashed
and bit sideways when restrained. Color
very reminiscent of the Sibon longifensis which
was found nearly in very similar circumstances
a couple of weeks.
