Greene, H. 1982 9 March Finca La Selva, Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, Provincia (continued) Heredia, Costa Rica Phyllobates lugubris under logs. Several small frogs that I thought were Eleutherodactylus but were E. biporcatus, a very small Rana warschewitschii and a very small Deplodactylus pentadactylus. These were in litter active beside trail. Saw several Norops humilis in litter and N. lineifrons on low vegetation. Saw a tiny greenista eleutherodactylus on a leaf 15 cm off the ground. 2 Bufo hamatiliticus hopping in the litter. A steinh (Spheronophs cheniei?) under a log, as was a Sepidophyma - it was under a fallen logs outer shell, = 1m x 20 cm. 3 juvenile Anreina festiva in sun on the trail at 10:38, w/ 20 m of each other. After lunch, 1345, a student ran in to say that a large coral snake was crossing a trail in the "ecological Reserve" 100m from the station. When I arrived it was just moving off the trail in full sun, a large f (?) Jampropeltis triangulum. It thrashed & struck repeatedly when grabbed by the tail, and bit my jeans. This species has apparently not been collected at La Selva before. From 1430 - 1615, walked East River
