at 1034hr the big ♀ B. asper is in a flat coil facing the Salto, ~1m N of the Welfia frond but almost covered w/leaves; 26/30.
at ~2115hr snake is same coil but head is on outer edge, facing S. Seems alert; 26/30.
22 June
at 0829hr snake is in same spot, N of Welfia frond, but now head faces N to Salto and is down on an outer coil: 25/30. at 1028hr I caught a young adult Leptophis depressatus (tastin (?) in leaves beside the side wall at the edge of the PB Grove. This was in a patch of bright sunlight, after much rain lately. I pinned the snake's tail initially, and it turned and tried to escape into the adjacent forest rather than across the trail. After lunch we processed the Bothrops asper from Rafael's house and inserted a channel 2 minnette (the larger ♀ off CCL is ch.5). Snake has a SV of 1322mm, tail 183mm, and wt 1.2kg. In contrast to the photo session yesterday, this time the snake was nervous and snappy, alternating fast sliding away from me w/ sudden turn-and-lunge than brief pause w/ wide open mouth. We released this snake at 1530hr and it immediately coiled in virtually the same place it was captured. When I checked at 1630hr it had moved to the opposite end of the board. When we
