Greene, H. 1984 20 june (continued) were seen by workmen in Hunter's Cacao grove at the NW edge of La Salva, one of which (?) Manuel caught. Just before noon a large, spectacular Polychrus gutturosus fell out of a small, lime tree at the edge of the Reje Baize Grove, at Debra Clark's feet. It is very prone to bite, can move up a tree fairly fast when pursued, and flattens its body when threatened. I am impressed that the hind feet are slightly (?) zygodactylus. Last night Michael Foyden caught an adult Micrurus alleni in the CES swamp, swimming in water and muck. When maneuvered for photo, it coils and elevates the tail only when restrained; otherwise seems to depend on fast and erratic crawling. (See also below.) 21 june At 0830h in the big ? Bothrops asper is in the same position as last night, but when I stepped carefully to within 1m of the palm frond she suddenly darted about <= one body length out toward the stream (and thus away from me - I have been repeatedly impressed by this animal's timidity [?] except when cornered. We've also been impressed with how "touchy" she is compared to all the Lachesis we've seen). We left quietly and walked out to CES 700 w/out seeing anything. At 1015h we caught an adult Bothrops asper that Isaias showed
