"Bunny Club" SE base of Granite Mtns, San Berardino Co, California as we drove and walked into here saw hopus, Sphylaeus, Neotoma, Ammospermophilus, and Sperrhyla variegatus - all active in late afternoon - and an adult Sceloporus magister. Talked to Bob Norris (Dept. Geology, U.C. S.B.) and his wife, part owners of the cabin. Earlier this year they'd seen a nursing & 3 or 4 young Bassanacus in the cabin.
We camped at Core Spring. Saw adults, juveniles and tadpoles of Bufo punctatus - the transformed ones hopping toward the stream after dusk. Mosquitoes so bad - surprisingly - that we had to cover our arms and heads w/ shirts to sleep.
10 September From before 10 til after 12 noon we walked around creosote scrub and Kelso Dunes, on the SE slopes of the dune faces. Got several Uma, mostly juveniles. Adults very wary, running >= 15-20 m straight, nonstop, then often down a hole. Saw two small Gambelia, one w/ rusty and one w/ red spots. John saw a Gopherus in creosote scrub between the dirt road and the S. dune face, and I found a fine big J Urosaurus on a creosote brush. Went to Vulcan mine to swim, on the W. slopes of the Providence Mountains via a good dirt road just S. of Kelso. Then to Baker for groceries, back to camp for supper, and out to Kelso Dunes to walk around at night. Saw no Crotalus cerastes tracks there.
