1983 11 February (continued) a tree. In one tree, which had epipodas, it seemed to be using its feet to investigate something; this was accompanied by wing flapping, so it might have just been using its feet to gain purchase. In the second tree we saw it investigate several trunkhacks by peering into them w/ its small head. The third tree was a tall thick snag w/ several (nest?) holes. The Crane Hawk held the trunk w/ its talons and stuck its head into each hole several times, checked out a trunkhack on the same trunk, then flew ~10m away and landed in a tree where we could no longer observe it. Returned across bridge at x 1545 hrs. When we went N. at ~1230 km, there was a >=1.5m Caiman on driftwood in the Rio, and it was still there when we returned. 12 February Left ~0715hrs w/ student from Texas A&M (Tulla?) and made a loop: CCN to SVA, checked for Jachosis (not there) and Feli ona tracks (none), returned by Holridge and East River Road. Saw Spenomorpus, Eleutherodactylus, and Rana warasheitschi active in litter, and a Violaceous Trogon on a limb. As returned David Clark directed me to a small Boa constrictor in the eaves, just under tin roof, of the shop
