17 January When held firmly and poked it holds anterior
(continued) part of the body straight and inflates, exposing
the light blue interstitial skin and causing
the snake to look light and dark blue - a
very striking color change. On further
head-on prodding it gaped, drew back, and

Alouetta hooting to the SE as we came back
into camp this afternoon. Gary Stiles shot
a Black Hawk Eagle and a Crested Hawk
Eagle, the latter as it was apparently

getting hot. I walked through flooded grassy area
across P. Cartanara and saw numerous Bufo holdridgei
(two collected) and several of the fat legged Eleutherodactyls
-traced a soft new call to it, and eventually caught
a couple. Also preserved a few of the large black
