1983 17 January When held firmly and poked it holds anterior (continued) part of the body straight and inflates, exposing the light blue interstitial skin and causing the snake to look light and dark blue - a very striking color change. On further head-on prodding it gaped, drew back, and stuck. Forgot to mention that we heard Alouetta hooting to the SE as we came back into camp this afternoon. Gary Stiles shot a Black Hawk Eagle and a Crested Hawk Eagle, the latter as it was apparently trying to catch a guan. The sun finally came out and we saw blue sky x/330 today, and as of 2000h it hasn't rained since x0900 today. We are all in good moods for this and because collecting was better today. 18 January Very foggy this morning, but by x0900 partly cloudy and getting hot. I walked through flooded grassy area across P. Cartanara and saw numerous Bufo holdridgei (two collected) and several of the fat legged Eleutherodactyls -traced a soft new call to it, and eventually caught a couple. Also preserved a few of the large black tadpoles that are conspicuous in the larger (>=1m in greatest dimension) pools. Walked two circuits of forest trails on the first ridge, but saw only one active Andis (cf. limifrons) and many
