7 May Left Berkeley ~1030h w/ David Sundale (Zeligh U.),
Kurt Schwerke, and George Schwerke. Arrived at Darwin
Falls parking lot ~2240, after dinner in Olancho and
a beautiful full-moon drive. Got 2 Crotalus
scarates in the Owens Valley at 2057 & 2124 hz, after
moon was up and before it was really bright. Very
windy at times.
8 May Darwin Falls Canyon, Inyo County, California
Up at 0700. From ~0800-1030 we split up
and looked for lizards on the canyon floor &
walls, N. of the parking area. Not many lizards
out, but we got 3 Sauracalus obsesus, 1
Callisaurs, and 1 Cnemidophorus. I
missed a Uta and Kurt saw a Grotaphytus
vicinetores. Walked to the falls and back,
leaving ~1330-1400. Saw a kingfisher,
a little blue heron, and a hawk w/ a
lizard or snake in its talons. Saw
numerous Cnemidophorus and 1 Bago boraes
in the lush part of the canyon. Was
surprised to see a large section dry
because of a diversion ditch carrying
water to a pipe.
Irona Road, 1.0 mi. N. jet w/ Hwy 395,
Found an adult live Crotalus mitchelli on
the road at 1551 hz. It rattled. No rocks
nearby - creosote shrub- but hills on
