19 July (continued) some Uta (including hatchlings). Driving out of caught an ad ♂ Phymosoma platyurus on the road near the "Jil O he Ranch" at 1035 hrs. Left Cal City ≈12 and drove to Darwin Falls via Trona. Saw ad. Cryptophytis in the talus slope just below the falls as we walked out ≈1830, in shade. Also Callisaurus, juvenile Uta, and many very small Bufo. Road hunted from Parnavit Valley Rd to the vista point ≈10.3 miles W on Hwy 170 twice, but saw only ≥1 Coleonyx ad 1 Phyllorhynchus AOR. One gecko was an adult nongravid ♀ at the jet of Darwin Rd and Hwy 170 which we released.
20 July Up early, walked slowly to falls and stayed till noon. Saw numerous Callisaurus in the dry wash part of the canyon, but Cnemidophorus only in the mesic stream-side situations - I even watched one forage on a large boulder in the stream in full shade. Collected 7 Bufo boreas active in and near aquatic vegetation in shade. Left after 12 and had lunch in Olancha. Then stopped in sparse Joshua tree area on Hwy 178 just W of Robber's Roost - got on Fantusia under a
