Greene, H. 198 10 May Saw Sauromalus, Sceloporus magister, Uta, (cont.) Gymnodophorus. There is a dramatic contrast between these sites and Pisgah Valley. The latter was very dry, there were very few flowers, and I saw few insects. At the more northern localities (including the Darwin Falls area) there are many flowers, including barrel & prickly pear cacti, creosote bush, and others I can't ID. Also, at the N. sites we saw and heard many diverse insects. If anything it was hotter at Pisgah. We saw a fresh DOR (not saved, ant. missing) Masticophis flagellum 16.4 mi N. #395 at Trona Rd. Got gas and food in Trona. Stopped at intersection of Panamint Valley Rd. & Hwy 190 to noose several Dipsosaurus - which were concentrated around the taller creosote bushes adjacent to Panamint Valley Rd. We noted a marked decrease in them among the shorter, less lush bushes away from the road. Saw 2 Grotaphytus vicinctor as we drove in the Darwin Rd. to park spot, and caught one. Got 3 more walking canyon walls, then walked to the falls. Saw several juvenile Bufo boreas (punctatus hybrids?) and Robert found 3 fresh Felis concolor
