Freere, H. 1981 20 February lower ones - still many basking and (continued) laying pairs, a large (12 cm SV) Lara aurora dead by the willows, wt no apparent wounds. Found two Scelopous occidentalis in mud under large rock by small coral above the lagoon - Joe clipped them, a jvr ♂ & large adult ♂, saw ≥1 golden eagle, ≥1 marsh hawk, 1 red-tail hawk, 1 red-shouldered hawk, 1 pair of white tailed kites and several kestrels. Back to cars ≈ 1200. Forgot - 7 jvr S. occidentalis under one small log top of hill behind lagoon; 1 jvr Gerhonotes multicarainus under another small log nearby. Walking back saw 3 active basking S. occidentalis and a few Batrachzeys under logs. 21 February Brines Regional Park, Contra Costa Co., California Another 1-7 field trip, weather like yesterday but a little warmer. Animals same, except no Gerhonotes, no eagles, 2 Ensatina and 1 Clemmys marmorata (carapace & 10 cm) & climbing up onto a willow bunch. Nice trips.
