Greene, H. 1980 1 December (continued) small or medium size, plus an occasional large red and blue male (?). They are fascinating. Often saw 4+ under one small bush, and maybe 10-20 under a single large tree (maybe many more - impossible to tell). Saw them raise on hind legs to eat, and also eat from ground. Many lizard turds everywhere, of uniform color and consistency and almost like wood. Rarely saw what looked like a chase, more often two or more passed w/out incident. These lizards hand wave almost continuously when stopped whether or not another lizard was visible (at least to me). They also sit w/ feet raised at times. Several times saw a large one go directly over a distance of several meters, then immediately enter a hole. Lizard tracks everywhere. Very wary, and we only got one juvenile. We also saw and collected one Tropidurus thoracicus. She was on a steep dune side in sparse low vegetation, mottled sun and shade. Very reminiscent of Urua in terms of habitat and general appearance.
