Greene, H. 1980 29 November (continued) and a chat w/ the Avis people. (Mark is now quite ill - fever, sore stomach, Duca quicksteps etc.). Sat around all afternoon waiting for the Avis lady to return at 2 as promised, but she never showed. Eventually Mark coaxed a local mechanic into helping him fix things. Checked back into hotel, had big supper. As it turns out, all this trouble may be to the good - in the hall I met Frank Sorey and his wife, an American couple that teach in Negritos. They have seen Callojistes and have a fellow teacher, John Boastling, who hunts a lot and knows the area well. We are to look them up at the "Escuela Particular" or American School, Beko Office, in Negritos (no phone). 30 November Up fairly early and drove to Talara via Piura and Sullana, with a brief lunch stop in Piura. From Cerro la Vieja to past Olmos is rugged country, at times nothing but bare rock. Later the landscape is flat, fine sand, and low trees - very desolate the more so because it was overcast. Stopped and rolled two old logs beside the road SE of Piura, and one had a scorpion
