Freere, H. 1980 25 November rest, such that it looked like scattered (continued) acacias on a savanna. Later it was a uniform spread of large clumps, all contiguous, such that it looked like lowland rainforest. Having just been reading about reality, perception, etc. (Even Cowgill set the Blues, 100 years of Solitude) it was very thought-provoking! 26 November Woke up safely in Chiclayo and soon learned we can't get a car until tomorrow! Spent the day sleeping (& I'm still sick), touring, etc. Staying at Hotel Tourista and mostly eating at Rest. Roma, just off Plaza de Armas - a steak dinner is less than $2 here, good, and about half what a meal costs at our hotel. 27 November After breakfast went to bank - took 45 minutes and five (5) people to cash Traveler's checks. Rented car for a week from Aris, a Toyota that seems in good shape. After lunch drove north to a locality recommended by John Wright. First stopped at a little drink stand in Motupe (x 80 km N.
