22 November clerk and typed all (?) documents (continued) for the Peruvian permit.
23 November Took it easy, slept, and read all day, leaving the pension only for $ meals. Getting a sore throat - from Cusco?
24 November A frustrating day. Packed everything and reserved airport bus pickup for 1700 to catch 1845 flight to Chilego. Went to permit office at 1630, turned in all my papers, and was told I must take a Peruvian student along. (No previous mention of this). I said this was impossible in terms of time or money, and they said come back at 1530 and I could have permit. Off to Jiron Union to buy clipboards at the bookstore, then back to Kechlein's secretary who called around and finally located formalina at Botica Drogeria, Jiron Carillon 336 (just off J. Union near Hotel Savoy) - a double irony! They weren't to open til 4, so ate lunch then went to the park to read until 1530. Set in the plaza opposite street of the permit office and talked w/ shine boys, then read. At 1530 walked into permit office and told to wait morosettis.
