Gheene, H. 1980 24 October Tilden Regional Park, Contra Costa Co., California walked about for 2 hours w/ Jan Mitchell on an open, W-facing hillside - grassy w/ several large boulder outcrops. Chilly & overcast. Found a hatchling Diadophis on dry ground under a rock (<40cm diameter). It had a uniformly orange belly, unlike the local adults (i.e., not yellow). It did displayed when touched roughly on the head. Released it at the same place. No lizards seen.
