4 October Returned to Car City for supper ~1800.
(continued) Road hunted till 2300 via road up Gantane
Canyon to Walke Pass Rd & then back via
Hwy 14 and Nevada Rd. Got 3 Lithophis, 1 Bufo,
1 Crotalus cerastes, and 1 Dipossaurus. The
Dipossaurus was asleep on the pavement
~2230 hrs.
5 October Drove back to Berkeley via Walter Pass Rd.
and the Kern River Canyon. Stopped in
Joshua trees a few miles SE of the
pass and caught ~1/5 Xantusia (several
very small) and a juvenile Mastacophis
flagellus that was under a yucca log
at 20900 hrs. Very fast and snappy. Also
saw several Uta, a juvenile Crepidophorus,
and a golden eagle soaring. Met a
man named Louis Self, who very
politely informed us that we were
on his land and that he preferred
we didn't collect anymore (no fences
or signs). He was concerned about limblex
lizards, which he sees occasionally, and
seemed to have a detailed familiarity
w/many local wildlife. However he
referred to shooting a "lynx" that
eat his quail. Read a small Honda
