Florence, H. 1980 3 October San N. California City, Kern Co., California Left Berkeley after supper last night and drove to Bakersfield w/ Kirk Schwert, Mark Wilson, and Darie Ganghorn. Picked up Ron Marlow at 0630 and were on the W. edge of the Desert Tortoise Preserve by ~0830. Kirk and Ron went on the Reserve and saw 2 Gopherus (♂♀ basking), a Masticophis skin, a juvenile Phrynosoma platyhirum, a juvenile Cantelia, and an adult Callisaurus. Kept none of these. Mark and Darie and I stayed on the public property to collect lizards for feeding experiments, saw numerous Uta stansburiana basking on dead branches or ground - very many, and we noosed only 3. Saw 2 Cnemidophorus ligur, noosed one. I spotted a juvenile Cantelia which pored to have a severe abdominal wound that had begun to heal where sand had dried on it; collected and pickled it. Left ~10:45 for Cal city and lunch. Also, I found a small adult ♂ Tortoise basking ~0900. In late afternoon Ron, Mark, and I drove to the Desert Tortoise Preserve Interpretive Center - got a good view of a flying
