Heene, H. 1980 6 June (cont.) HWG981), / Scaphiopus (AOR) and several Bufo boreas. The toads were all very flattened against the parent, as if warning. a student pointed out what he said was an occupied eagle nest - a large stick nest to the S. as one ascends the pass going E. The nest is to the left of the tunnel and x 1/2 up an isolated oak on a distant hillside. 13 June Left Berkeley at 1100 w/ John Cade to drive straight through to Fort Worth to attend the A51H meeting. Saw 2 DOR badgers on I-5 in the valley, a few Holbrookia lutea and some Cnemidophorus at a roadside rest area in SE Arizona along I-10. Encountered 100+ F in the El Paso - Van Horn area, and finally arrived x 0200 on Sunday morning the 15th. 175 mi WSW Wichita (FM1219 exit) on Hwy I-20, Ward Co., Texas 14 June Here I spotted a dead javelina on the roadside - what I took to be a small adult w/ good side tusks. Surroundings sparse desert scrub, mainly Larrea. I thought it might be a range extension, but it was rotten so we left it.
