there, H. 1980 4 May sand storm that it wasn't possible (cost.) to search for lizards. Then we checked rocks along Snow Creek Rd for basking lizards, hoping for a big Sceloporus magister I saw there earlier, but got nothing. It was very windy and the sun was dimmed by the sand. After this we headed for the UC Riverside Garage, where we shifted all our gear to Kristine's VW and lugged in the Horset - we drove ~1350 miles. Went to Ontario for a room and supper, and will return to Berkeley tomorrow morning by plane. 10 May Jewel Lake, Tilden Regional Park, Contra Costa Co., California cold, partly overcast day. Went from 10:30-1:30 to visit one of my Zool 107 student, Dana Kokubun, who is studying basking and aggression in Clemmys marmorata. We saw at least 6:3 on a floating plant, w/ necks and limbs extended; one smaller adult in the water that tried unsuccessfully to climb on the plants (it was gaped at by the largest resident); one basking on a stump in the water; and 2 basking ontiles at the water's edge.
