Some final notes on today. The sidewinder tracks at Washington & 38th streets were pretty easy to read - only plant cover (especially Russian Thistle) would have impeded trailing them. As for Yantusia,
I searched a dozen or more perfect looking Joshua tree logs and found only centipedes
and the one tiny specimen - the adults must be (?) in the logs in midday. Saw many Dipsosaurus along Amboy Road, especially the N. slope. The lava flow at Ringah was very impressive to see and very difficult to walk on. Only sparse vegetation, yet we saw lizard feces.
The Crotalus mitchelli rattled loudly before seen and crawled continuously - we couldn't make it coil for more that a few seconds at a time. It is a very dark snake and was not easy to see on the lava. The first three snakes on the road were collected driving up the N. slope from Amboy, S. on Amboy Road.
