Flame, H. 1980 3 May (cont.) Met Jeff Kaufmann at his Piosah Ura study site. Saw Ura, Callisaurus, & Cnemidophorus - moosed one adult whiptail while standing around eating lunch. Lots of yellow flowers - Jeff said that R.C.S. says more flowers than he's ever seen here. We walked x 1/4 - 1/3 way across lava flow towards crater to a place where Jeff saw a Crotalus mitchelli twice. On the way back (x 1830hr) as I topped a ridge I heard then saw an adult Crotalus crawling up the smooth lava surface toward me. Caught it. Then walking across flat area between flow and the road we found a Phrynosoma platyhinus on a small rock w/ it's back perpendicular to the sun. Forgot to note that driving to the pullover where we started across the flow, I moosed a Callisaurus 789.6 Chionactis or Amboyed. going to 29 Palms National Trail Hwy. 8:30 pm 793.7 Crotalus cerastes ADR (killed) 8:48 pm 796.6 Arizona elegans 8:45 pm 806.4 C. cerastes ADR 9:02 pm 812.5 C. cerastes DOR (lg. smashed) 9:10 pm
