Greene, H. 1980 27 April left Berkeley ~1930 for Riverside, pooped out in Los Banos ~2330. 28 April Up at 0530, drove till 0830 for breakfast 15.7 mi N Hwy 33 on I 5, Fresno Co., California Kristine Tollestrup saw a DOR Masticophis flagellum. Thule Elk State Reserve, Morris Rd., Kern Co., California saw 4 elk, including bulls w/ huge racks, lying down in distance. Photographed turnerow owls and saw shrikes. 1.1 mi N. Desert Shores on Hwy 86 Imperial-Riverside Cos., California ~1630 found huge DOR reddish Arizona elegans. Total length 122 cm, tail 15.5 cm - perhaps a ? We arrived in El Centro ~1800, found motel & did laundry. Air temp. (bank sign) 75°F. Moon almost full. On the way here it rained throughout the Coachella Valley and sporadically in the Imperial Valley. We stopped at one trash pile (boards, cars, tin) between Indio & Valerie Jean's date store but saw only 3 Uta. Stopped at Valerie Jean's for delicious date sundaes and for me to photograph a sign about "King Solomon" the palm tree.
