May 6 1963, Left Berkeley at 0930 (mileage 38043) for McMillan Ranch; stops at Alameda, Hayward and in Salinas where I talked with Mr. Tusselman about local quail hunting (very little now), and found that the hunting area opposite Laguna Seca is a deer area. Arrived at Mc-Millain Ranch, San Luis Obispo County, at 1655, mileage 38288. Righted in .22 rifle, and found it shot a little high at 25-yards at lowest setting; shot 4 blackbirds with .22 shotshells - estimate maximum range must be less than 20 yards. Worked on hygrothermograph - installed and adjusted new humidity pen. This instrument is still running more than an hour a day slow. After dismantling and inspecting it appeared that lower bearing of the balance wheel is either missing or com-pletely worn out; reassembly the clock did not run in normal fashion.
May 7: 0730 Weather - Psychrom 55° - 53° -89%. Overcast ST with breaks; clouds topping low hills to west and ridge
