W.J. Francis 1963. 38. May 1. Journal. Just topped Grizzly Peak as the quail went into their roost. May 2. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 0607 at pen in Behavior Lab. Weather clear and nearly flat calm. 0705 Sunshine on the slope above access road to west and north of the pen, and at 0707 sun first visible from the hut over Grizzly Peak to the east, with sunlight as ground in the west corner. By 0715 there was sun- light in scattered patches all over the ground in the pen. I put in the center (E-5) a small amount of dry dust for dust bathing and made a shallow excavation for a water pool in C-6. Ended at 0750. May 3. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 0930-1015 Constructed shallow con- crete pool about 1 1/2 x 3' in area C-6. Weather overcast with breaks in heavy CO over ridges of hills calm to light winds, RH 88% by Psychrom at 0950. Left at 1030.
