W. J. Francis 1963 19. Journal March 21. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co., Calif. the day, somewhat better in the hills. Light winds. 0915 to 1010 Set and Oaited quail trap, walked over road below Beharin lab. Resumed pen observations till 1105, broke ties 1325. Scattered 1/2 can (2 days ration) of chicken feed. Old feed not yet consumed. Sunrise 0612 Sunset 1822. March 22. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. Began observations in pen at 0545. Weather cool + moderately windy, sky overcast with breaks, AS and SC. Sun- rise 0610. 0613 Single Band-tailed pigeon flew into Eucalyptus below pen. Wind gusty + turbulent swaying tops of tall Eucalyptus most of the time frequently suffling low growth within pen even without very great wind speed. Clouds are sufficiently high and with breaks that light is not greatly reduced. Left post at 0730. at 1120 rain commenced falling steadily (in North Berkeley hill area).
