W.J. Francis 1963 18. Journal March 16, Strawberry Canyon Alameda Co., Calif. Observations in Behavior Lab. Weather overcast with breaks, rain ended near noon. 1400 Rain gage 1.10 inches. Scattered a can of grain (25 oz.) in addition to that put out when quail were penned. This is calculated to provide 4 days food for 8 quail by Sumner's data. March 17. Strawberry Canyon Alameda Co. 1410 Checked pen in Behavior Lab. and set quail trap. Weather: sctd to broken cv, intermittent sunshine. March 18. Serviced trap at 0840 and checked pen. Checked pen at 1430, found dead quail others OK. Placed white-enamled coffee can shelter over temp. probe in shrubby Eucalyptus. March 19. 0815 Serviced trap. Collected California Thrasher for N.T. Johnson, and released Fox Sparrow & banded quail. March 21. Observations in pen 0845 to 0915. Weather overcast with thin AC and AS, sun occasionally shining through. Visibility about 3 miles over
