W.J. Francis 1963 Journal Mar. 4. Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co. a covey of about 25 quail have been reported to feed (t. white). None were seen or heard. Frost remained on the ground where open slopes remained shaded by the hills 1005. Eleven Band-tailed pigeons flew into large sycamore at lower end of the long meadow, 2 others seen in tree on the hillside. Mar. 5. Hastings Reservation Carmel Valley, Monterey County, Calif. 0610 Heard quail in trees backs of Davis house, temp. 47° - 36°, R.H. 43%. Weather clear, slight downslope wind, no dew or frost. Psychron reading in low exposed grassy field, at ground level, 31 1/2°, 29 1/2°, RH 78% Mar. 6. Hastings Reservation, Carmel Valley, Monterey County, Calif. 0607 Began early morning field trip for quail. Weather clear with few thin high clouds, calm (very slight easterly downslope breeze). Observed near quail roost above Davis house. 0632 Psychron reading 41.5° - 36.5°, RH 62%, at edge of brush.
