June 10. McMillan Ranch, San Luis Obispo County,
which has been protected for about
20 years where Stipa has become
well established - this appears
to provide ample grail nesting cover.
I dismantled the weather station
and loaded the instrument shelter and
hygrothermograph, leaving the rain
gauge in place. Left the ranch
at 1330, mileage 55240, and
returned via Camatti Canyon,
Creston, Paso Robles, and Jolon,
where I traversed back roads
over previously surveyed grail areas,
then direct to Berkeley. Saw
5 dead deer apparently road
killed, including a fork-horn buck
and a fawn, and several deer
in Hunter-Liggett area. Arrived
at Berkeley 1915, mileage 55306,
total trip mileage 516 miles.
June 11. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda co.
0830 Weather at Behavior Lab: clear,
moderate westerly wind, good visibility.
Vegetation quite wet with dew.
Scattered doe can of grain. Serviced
rain gauge (0.80").
