W. J. Francis 1964. 42. Journal. June 8, Berkeley, Calif. Left home for field trip, mileage 54990, stopped at MVZ to pick up note- paper for Ian McWillan, and got underway at 0911, mileage 54998. Arrived at McWillan Ranch, San Luis Obispo County at 1430. Set up quail traps both front & back of house, + serviced them until 4:30; "active" trap in each of ranch house then reset; the other day traps in front of the house still set - nothing yet caught in this. June 9. McWillan Ranch, San Luis Obispo County, 0630 Made a walking road census of quail between ranch house and Old House, until 0720. During the morning dissected yesterday's specimens and improved entrance to quail trap, from which some have escaped. at 1310, to Marian Canyon for observations near springs & barley fields. Noted watch stopped at 1335 - reset to 1410 by guess, and started walking through Marian & Portuguese Canyon, until 1510. Took Kodachrome #8 on pasture, 1/50, F.8 10 ft. Kodachrome II ASA 25', same spot as last year vegetation photo and sample.
