Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County- 1005 Weather at Behavior Lab. pen: station obscured in ST cloud with base 300 below station visibility 50-75 yards; moderate westerly wind with moderate turbulence. Heavy fog drip from eucalyptus and tops of vegetation wet with intercepted moisture. Vegetation in the pen Green & vigorous - almost lush, grasses and thistles predominating. Uncut grasses up to 4 feet tall and seeded out, thistles and other composites flowering. 1025. Derriced instruments, filled water tubs, and scattered one can of grain. Drag cut dust baths - ground is very hard & compact, although trace of moisture evident in clods 4-6" deep. Clay clods would not break up under the plow. Tried at hand lawn-mower on the grass with completely negative results. May 17. 1255 at Behavior Lab. pen, weather partly cloudy with 7/10 cu, light southerly winds with only slight turbulence.
