W. J. Flanigan 1964. 32. Journal. April 10. McMillan Ranch, San Luis Obispo Co. 1700 after some discussion with Dan, examined the pasture where many quail were feeding. Grass was sparse & dried, but the ground covered with small but lush Erodium, some flowering, many seeded. This food concentration is obviously far in excess of the quail requirements and is in contrast to the un- grazed enclosure with taller gasses either wholly or partially dried, and no Erodium - also no quail feeding there. 1705- Drove over ranch roads to check old house, trees & willow cops, and thence down Gillis Canyon road en route x Hastings. 1752 at San Juan road mileage 53494. Arrived Hastings about 2030, mileage 53617. April 11. Hastings Reservation, Monterey County. Early morning field trip 0615-100728 locating and observing quail in the lead quarters area. Weather clear, light easterly wind, moderate dew on grass. Packed up, including weather instruments to be returned.
