Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County, Calif. 1300 Installed and painted shelter in Animal Behavior Laboratory for weather recorder, borrowed from Entomology dept., courtesy of Dr. Ray Smith. Assisted and in- structed by George Tamaki of the Entomology Dept. Second shelter taken home for cleaning & painting, later to be installed at Hastings Reservations. Feb. 28. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County, California. 1700 Observed covey of quail at edge of brush next to grassy clearing on west facing slope just over crest of hill west of the Animal Behavior Lab. Baited feeding area with Poultry Mash. March 3 Sunday. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County, Calif. 0845 Checked trap (walk- in chicken wire type) at edge of brush outside of Animal Behavior lab. Several quail in trap escaped by squeezing through 2" mesh wire netting on top of trap. One male failed to escape, and was captured as he was squeezing
