Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. related hail patches from yesterday and last night's thunderstorms still remaining on the ground, with the temperature near freezing. Spread 3 cans of grain to last until I return from field trip. On leaving the Station at 0935, sky had cleared to 4/10 fragmentary Cu, bright sunshine. Jan. 23. Berkeley, Alameda County. 0930 Left home for trip to Mc Millan Ranch, mileage 50246. Stopped at Behavior Lab. pen to service rain gage, and finally left the University at 1025, mileage 50258. 1520 Arrived at McMillan Ranch, San Luis Obispo County, mileage 50496. Set up my two traps in the "Old House Covey" area, set & baited them. Set up and trapped a trap of McMillan in back of ranch house. On about 1/2 hour, took and landed 41 quail in the latter, then left sunset for the night.
