Weather fair & cold, 5/10 thin cirrus, nearly calm. Dec. 16. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 0900 Checked trap in Bacchanis area, no birds; grain outside partly eaten, presumably by sparrows. 0930 Serviced weather instruments in the pen. Weather nearly clear, 4/10 thin cirrus, very light wind without turbulence. 1630 Completed construction of new trap, set it up, set and baited inside Behavior lab below population pens. Also checked trap outside - no birds, no grain eaten inside. Also saw a house cat prowling the area. Dec. 17. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 0910 Weather at Behavior lab. Clear, moderate wind with slight turbulence. Red-tailed Hawk soaring near Grizzly Peak. Checked traps.
